Despite an exceptional attendance rate over the past 4 years, it seems Gammon has now self-graduated from CBeebies University and moved on to audio-visual pastures new (well, with the exception of Octonauts of course!). Chips has never been quite as interested in telly as her older brother, and…well… long may it continue!
Gammon’s latest favourite is ‘What’s New Scooby Doo?’ on CBBC. His other new favourite is ‘Jake and the Netherland Pirates’. So imagine how excited he was to receive the DVD of ‘Scooby-Doo! Adventures: The Mystery Map‘ original puppet movie in the post to review! And imagine how excited he was to realise it was all about pirates!
Gammon certainly seemed to enjoy the story, and even Chips sat transfixed for most of it too. My few jaunts back in to the lounge room gleaned a search for a Phantom Parrot who has a map to Pirate Gnarlybeard’s hidden treasure and Scooby, Shaggy and the rest of the gang of ‘meddling kids’ solving the mystery. I don’t think it was the janitor though (for once). But, do you know what? I really wouldn’t know. The DVD lasted for about 45 minutes and allowed me to cook dinner in relative peace with only minor interruptions, so I personally say it was a resounding success!
The DVD also includes two cartoon episodes of Scooby-Doo, for those who want to be reminded about what the characters looked like before they were transformed into puppets.
I asked Gammon if he minded it being with puppets rather than his usual cartoon. He said ‘no’, and he must have been telling the truth, because he asked me to put it on for him every afternoon for a week after school while he sat down ready to eat his snack. Four year old praise indeed!
This DVD can be purchased from Amazon for £7.
